The Birman
The Birman is not just any cat!! It is a very social and loving cat with the most wonderful temper seen in cats. A Birman gets very attached to its humans, and therefore you can easily take your Birman out camping, on hotelstays etc. The Birman is also always ready to help out with everything you do, even the dishes J The temper of the Birman is also the reason why the Birman queens are very affectionate towards their kittens and therefore make perfect mothers.
A Birman is a medium sized, semilonghaired cat with very limited grooming. It is usually not a requirement since most Birmans keep their own fur. The fur quality is very silky (‘rabbit like’). The fur length and quality is NOT to be compared with the Persian. The head of the Birman is ‘heart-shaped’ with full cheeks, the nose length is medium without a stop, but with a slight indentation. The eyes are oval shaped and coloured dark blue. The ears are rather small and set vide apart. All Birmans have a coloured mask and the same maskcolour on ears, tail and legs. Only the feet must be pure white, as these gloves are the trademark of the Birman. On the front feet the ‘gloves’ must cover all toes and must not exceed the ankle. On the backside of the hindfeets the glove must end in a ‘spur’ (an inverted V). – But far from all Birmans have ‘perfect’ markings, but the comfortable temper is always the same J In FIFe the recognized pointcolours are: Seal, Chocolate, blue, lilac, red and creme all variaties is also availible in Tabby (striped), *Tortie and *Torbie (Tortie-Tabby).
* Not availible in Red and Creme, as tortie is red/creme ‘spots’ mixed into the pointcolour
